My Top Proofreading Tools and Resources

July 30, 2019

Sometimes proofreading is not straightforward and proofreaders of all kinds need a little help. Fortunately, when proofreaders get stuck on anything from the capitalization of certain words to grammar, there are many tools and resources that they can turn to. Here are some of my go-to sites for extra proofreading help:

Grammark

Grammark is a great website that helps with transitions, sentence variety, run-on sentences, wordiness and passive voice, among other writing concerns.  Just cut and paste your writing into a box on the webpage and it will return a list of potential problems and their fixes.

Grammarly

Grammarly’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered writing assistant helps users create mistake-free writing. This site automatically detects spelling, word choice, style and other mistakes. The best part of the site, is that it’s simple to use by cutting and pasting English text into its editor. Grammarly not only detects problems it explains the reasons behind each correction.

Hemingway Editor

This app helps you create both clear and bold writing. Hemingway Editor highlights common errors and highlights long and complex sentences. In contrast to several other apps on the market, Hemingway Editor places its focus on helping you use powerful words to make your writing more impactful and concise at the same time.
